If you take pride in mastering complex setups, solving machining challenges, and helping others grow technically, join our machining team as a CNC Machinist Level III - Lathe. This role serves as an advanced CNC lathe technician responsible for leading sophisticated setups, stabilizing and owning machining processes, improving tooling strategies, and mentoring/developing machinists while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.

POSITION SUMMARY
The CNC Machinist Level III - Lathe independently performs complex CNC lathe setups and supervises production runs, drives process stability, and supports continuous improvement initiatives. This in-person role works closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production leadership to troubleshoot technical issues, optimize machining strategies, and ensure repeatable, high-precision manufacturing performance. Requires occasional travel to PHT’s Redlands, CA location for training and to provide support.WHAT YOU’LL DO
Perform full setups on complex CNC lathe jobs including tooling selection, offsets, workholding, and program verification
Serve as technical escalation point for complex lathe machining issues
Run multi-operation parts with tight tolerances, critical surface finishes, and challenging materials
Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and quality issues; suggest and implement corrective actions, as needed
Optimize feeds, speeds, chip control, and tool life to improve cycle time and consistency
Apply GD&T and datum structure to determine workholding strategy, setup sequence, and inspection approach
Identify tolerance stack-up risks and escalate manufacturability concerns when process capability may not meet print intent/requirements
Conduct advanced in-process inspections using precision measurement equipment
Support first article builds, engineering releases, and new product introduction
Document setups, tooling strategies, and standard work to improve repeatability across shifts
Mentor Level I and II machinists through hands-on coaching
Monitor process performance and take action to prevent recurring defects and meet production requirements
Collaborate with Engineering and Quality on fixture improvements and process capability efforts
Perform preventive maintenance tasks and identify early machine performance issues
Maintain and improve 5S standards for tooling, workholding, and setup readiness within assigned machines or work cell
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on scrap reduction, setup reduction, and throughput
Adhere to PHT’s QMS
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Required5+ years CNC lathe machining experience or equivalent advanced technical capability
Proven ability to independently complete complex setups and troubleshoot production issues
Advanced blueprint interpretation, including GD&T application, to machining strategy and inspection planning
Advanced metrology proficiency and ability to validate critical features
Experience optimizing tooling and improving process stability
Ability to mentor and lead developing machinists
Ability to document and standardize setup best practices
Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills
Commitment to safety, quality, and standard work
U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency required in accordance with ITAR regulations
Preferred
Citizen / Swiss-type lathe experience
Multi-axis or live tooling experience
Experience supporting first article or process validation activities
Fixture or tooling design input experience
Participation in lean or continuous improvement initiatives
Safety Responsibilities
Follow all safety procedures and machine guarding requirements
Proper use of required PPE including safety glasses and protective equipment
Identify and report unsafe conditions or equipment concerns immediately
Follow lockout/tagout procedures
Pay: $30.00 - $42.00 per hour
